DEBUNKING FITNESS MYTHS

Is it true that you should do cardio at the end of your exercise rather than at the beginning?

You’re undoubtedly under the impression that muscle weighs more than fat, right?

And of course, stretching prevents injuries! Right?

But let me tell you, between Instagram influencers, fitness bloggers, and indeed “ancient beliefs” there’s a veritable treasure trove of information whereas unfortunately, not all of it is accurate. So, we’re on a hunt to find some famous fitness myths which will be debunked today! – FytDrop wants to keep you fit with reality.

So, here are the top 10 fitness myths –

  1. MYTH: Lifting heavy weights bulks up women.

TRUTH: Lifting weights can help you maintain a healthy weight by preventing muscle loss, increasing bone density, and increasing the pace at which your body consumes calories. It tones and shapes your body, but it won’t turn you into a bodybuilder because women’s testosterone levels are low, they don’t naturally create enormous muscles.

2. MYTH: You need to spend hours in the gym.

TRUTH: You can benefit from exercising whether you’re at the gym or at home. The idea is to exercise more intelligently rather than more vigorously. Strength train before doing aerobic workouts to get the most out of your workout.

3. MYTH: Stretch before exercising.

TRUTH: Stretching beforehand provides little to no benefit. Stretching after exercise is more effective when your muscles and joints are warm. Stretching after exercise can increase performance and flexibility while also assisting you in maintaining a healthy range of motion in your joints.

4. MYTH: When you stop strength training, muscle turns to fat.

TRUTH: Muscle cannot change into fat, and fat cannot transform into muscle. Muscle and fat are two distinct forms of tissue. When you cease strength training, your muscle mass decreases and your metabolism slows. A slow metabolism implies that your body burns fewer calories while at rest, which can contribute to weight gain. Obesity raises the chances of colon, pancreas, kidney, endometrial, gallbladder, esophageal, and breast cancer.

5. MYTH: You burn more calories if you exercise before eating.

TRUTH: Only if you’re 30 per cent over your ideal weight. Less than that and you’ll burn more calories if you exercise after eating. Always avoid strenuous aerobic exercise too soon after eating.

6. MYTH: If you want to gain muscle growth, you should eat more protein.

TRUTH: Most individuals consume too much protein, which can harm the kidneys and deplete the body with calcium. Even intense exercise will not deplete your protein supply.

7. MYTH:  It’s best to exercise in the morning.

TRUTH: Only if you enjoy it. It makes no difference what time of day you exercise. Exercising just before bedtime, however, may make it more difficult to fall asleep.

8. MYTH: Sit-ups will assist you in losing belly fat.

TRUTH: There is no such thing as “spot” fat loss when it comes to body fat. When you lose fat, it is distributed proportionally throughout your body. Sit-ups and other resistance exercises, on the other hand, will tone the muscles beneath the body fat.

9. MYTH: No pain, no gain

TRUTH: There is no such thing as “spot” fat loss when it comes to body fat. When you lose fat, it is distributed proportionally throughout your body. Sit-ups and other resistance exercises, on the other hand, will tone the muscles beneath the body fat.

10. MYTH: I’m not working hard enough if I’m not breaking a sweat.

TRUTH: Sweating is an imprecise indicator of how hard you’ve worked out. Sweating should not be used to determine how hard you’re working during a workout. Many factors influence how much a person sweats, including temperature, humidity, and hydration levels. Your body may be capable of cooling itself as well.
